FLOOD UPDATE, JULY 2, 2008

The number one question we get asked is, How Can I Help?

We need volunteers to help muck out homes. Call the Presbytery office, 319.354.9220, and sign up to work.  You can either register by yourself or with a work team from your church. Richard is handling all the phone calls and will gladly plug you into one of the existing work sites:

    1. Vinton Presbyterian Church
     2. Westminster Presbyterian in Cedar Rapids
     3. Christ Church in Cedar Rapids
     4. St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City

We need donations to buy building materials.  Please send donations to the presbytery office so we can apply the funds directly to local projects.  Make checks payable to:

The Presbytery of East Iowa
1700 S. 1st Avenue, Suite 23
Iowa City, IA  52240.
in the memo section, write "2008 Flood Relief"

100% of donations sent to the presbytery will be used for flood relief.  All administrative costs will be absorbed by the presbytery. Please remember to keep your Unified Mission Giving up to date so we can absorb all the administrative costs.

Semi from New York State Brings Supplies to Iowans
On Tuesday, July 1, a group of 25 volunteers from Calvin-Sinclair, Olivet, Echo Hill, FPC/CR and FPC/Marion gathered at C-S to unload a semi-trailer full of supplies to aid in the clean-up effort.  Conklin Presbyterian Church, near Binghamton, NY sent the truck containing generators, dehumidifiers, contractor grade garbage bags, mold-cleaning spray, shovels, pumps and many other items to help those in the Iowa City/CR area who have been affected by the floods.

Olivet Presbyterian Church is looking for a facility where they can hold their Summer Recreation Program.  This program was scheduled to begin June 16 and run through August 22 and provides structured activities and field trips for children ages 5-12 years old--including a morning snack and light lunch.  If you are aware of any facility they could use for July and August to hold their program, it would be greatly appreciated. As families are dealing with household and personal loss, additional stresses, and economic hardship, the outreach of Summer Recreation for the children is even more valuable and needed. Contact Jan Bahr if you can provide any help.
